Inaguration of H2moves station in Oslo

stang_steinsmo_0The new station in Gaustad, Oslo is the first one in Norway where the hydrogen is produced exclusively by water and electricity, which in this case is entirely renewable. With no other emission than water vapor, any fuel cell car using this station is an actual zero emission vehicle.

Today was also the Korean car manufacturer Hyundai’s first showing of their hydrogen powered SUV ix35 FCEV to the Norwegian hydrogen project. The Nordic countries signed a letter of intent together with Hyundai earlier this year, aiming for advancing hydrogen as a fuel and preparing a market for fuel cell electric vehicles.

Allan Rushforth, Senior Vice President and COO of Hyundai Motor Europe, commented: “Hyundai believes hydrogen-powered vehicles will play an important role in guaranteeing the long-term sustainability of the European auto industry.  The ix35 FCEV boasts the same convenience and performance as a conventional vehicle thanks to a top speed of 160 kilometres-per-hour, a driving range of 525 kilometers and the ability to start in temperatures as low as minus 25 degrees Celsius." 

The cars in the project will be leased to private and industrial customers and used on an everyday basis. This will allow for a better understanding of regular customers’ satisfaction regarding the technology. The Nordic climate will be an additional check on how the fuel cells perform in real life.

“Electric vehicles with fuel cells are ready for the market and we will start with the serial production in 2014 already. But since alternative drives require alternative infrastructures, we work closely together with partners from governments, energy providers and several automobile manufacturers”, says Prof. Herbert Kohler, Vice President eDrive & Future Mobility of Daimler AG.

The hydrogen station, placed at research organization SINTEF, is manufactured by the Danish company H2 Logic and provides fast refueling of hydrogen in 3 minutes and a comparable range to gasoline on one refueling. This way hydrogen enables electric driving with the same convenience as gasoline.

“The new hydrogen station in Oslo provides a significant step forward in ensuring a refuelling network in Norway as well as Scandinavia. It paves way for the market introduction of fuel cell vehicles. Next step is to ensure support mechanisms together with governments”, states Jacob Krogsgaard director of H2 Logic A/S.

  • Ten Mercedes-Benz B-class F-CELL from Daimler, range 380 km
  • Two Hyundai ix35 FCEV, range 525 km
  • Five Think city cars. Originally a battery electric car, now equipped with a fuel cell range extender, allowing a 250 km range

  • 3 minutes refueling time in accordance with international standards
  • High fueling pressure enabling comparable range as gasoline on one refueling
  • Capacity to refuel up to 500 cars in a network on annual basis
  • Onsite production of hydrogen using electricity to split water

City wide hydrogen transport networks launched in London and Copenhagen

On the 31st October 2011 a new hydrogen transport project was launched that will see citywide hydrogen networks developed in London and Copenhagen. HyTEC (Hydrogen Transport in European Cities) which is part funded by the Fuel Cells & Hydrogen Joint Undertaking (FCH JU), pulls together 16 organisations in a three year project to put the two cities at the forefront of efforts to establish ultra-low carbon hydrogen transport infrastructure in Europe.

The project will see 30 hydrogen powered vehicles, including cars, taxis and scooters divided between the two cities and connected by new hydrogen fuelling stations.

An aim of HyTEC is to identify and address potential barriers to the wider roll-out of ultra-low carbon hydrogen vehicles around Europe.  A research team will review data from the vehicles allowing a full-analysis of their performance during a sustained period of urban driving.

In an effort to understand the best methods for rolling out hydrogen transport, each city will adopt a different approach to hydrogen vehicle demonstration, trialling different vehicle types and approaches to fuelling infrastructure rollout.

In London, a new hydrogen fuelling station will connect up the City’s three fuelling stations that will be in operation.  This will focus on the development of hydrogen transport infrastructure in urban centres.

While in Copenhagen, a publicly accessible fuelling network will be developed and linked to other majors cities around Denmark as part of an effort to secure a countrywide network for hydrogen transport from 2015.

Next Move - A uniqe Scandinavian cooperation for zero emission vehicles

Regions and municipalities in the Öresund - Kattegat – Skagerrak area have expressed a political will to enforce the use of emission-free vehicles. On June 21st Next Move was therefore launched - an EU-funded project that facilitates cooperation across borders to meet strategic challenges like purchasing and service, for the regions and municipalities that want to become early users of these vehicles.


Hydrogen Station Holstebro

holstebro-700bar-openingToday the first 700bar hydrogen refueling station opened in the city of Holstebro in Denmark. The station enables a fast and uniform refueling of hydrogen in less than three minutes in accordance with the SAE J2601 standard. The new 700bar station enables full cross-country driving on one refueling, the only electric vehicle technology so far to achieve this in Denmark.

The establishment of the hydrogen station is part of the LINK2009 project, where H2 Logic the past few years has conducted development of its new 700bar fast-fill technology. The Danish Energy Agency EUDP program has provided support to the total project budget of €5 million.
At the station opening the Mercedes B-Class F-Cell was showcased and Sales Manager of Mercedes-Denmark A/S made a speech about the recent efforts within Daimler on FCEV commercialization.
