I brugerpanelet var bl.a.

Five countries will collaborate for clean transport in the Baltic Sea Region

In a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) representatives from national hydrogen associations of Denmark, Estonia, Latvia, Norway and Sweden address they will work together for an emission free transport corridor in the Baltic Sea Region.

The Baltic Sea Region, with 80 million people in a large territory and the Baltic Sea as a sensitive ecosystem, calls for new innovations and solutions for sustainable, multimodal and green transport corridors.

In a cooperation platform called the Baltic Sea Region Hydrogen Network, five countries will collaborate and coordinate on advancing and promoting competence exchange within the use of hydrogen as a zero-emission fuel for the transport sector and as an energy carrier within the energy sector.

Amongst the objectives is to increase the knowledge and promote the use of renewable energy for hydrogen production for transport and elaborate synergies with other use of hydrogen together wiht other energy carriers.

- We are exited to announce this cooperation as a part of our European fellowship. There is a need to establish a system that underpins European economic progress while at the same time using resources more efficiently. Working together we have the possibility to develop a clean transport corridor in the region with less negative impact on the environment and key natural assets like water, land and ecosystems, says Björn Aronsson, Managing Director Hydrogen Sweden.

The MoU was agreed upon during the first of a Baltic Sea Region Hydrogen Network annual event. Signing partners are Brintbranchen/Hydrogen Denmark, Estonian Association of Hydrogen Technologies, Latvian Hydrogen Association, Norwegian Hydrogen Forum and Hydrogen Sweden. More countries and interested stakeholders are welcome to join the network.

Initial hydrogen infrastructure in Sweden on WHEC agenda

This June, the world’s hydrogen and fuel cell community will come together in Zaragoza, Spain for the World Hydrogen Energy Conference 2016 (WHEC 2016). SHHP´s Erik Wiberg, Analyst at Hydrogen Sweden will be one of the speakers on Initial hydrogen infrastructure in Sweden.

- The energy situation in Sweden in quite different from the rest of Europe, since about half of the power generation is from hydropower and half from nuclear, besides a few percent wind and bio energy. Electricity is clean and comparably cheap, and natural gas on the other hand is quite expensive. However, as non-fossil fuel is needed for vehicles, the power generation from wind could be increased for use as a local clean hydrogen production, says Erik Wiberg.

Hydrogen Sweden is delighted to see that Swedish fuel cells were selected as showcase when Sweden presented its finest green innovations to president Obama, during his official visit on September 4th.  The demonstration took place at KTH, the Royal Institute of Technology, in Stockholm where researchers demonstrated fuel cell products developed by PowerCell and the KTH spin-off company myFC, as well as a hydrogen fuelled car built by students for the Shell Eco Marathon race. According to Swedish media, the president seemed eager to get into the small car but restrained himself.

The media interest was extensive and newspapers, TV and radio interviewed Göran Lindbergh, professor of electrochemistry and his colleagues Rakel Wreland Lindström and Carina Lagergren.

Two conferences in one - don't miss out!

Hydrogen & Fuel Cells in the Nordic Countries is a unique opportunity to meet with researchers, industrial actors and decision makers working within is organized by the Nordic stakeholders themselves and has served as an important and popular meeting place since 2003.

This year’s conference will be held in conjunction with Akershus County Council and HyER’s “Regional Power for Clean Transport” conference, which has an interesting program with regional and European presentations on zero emission transport,30-31 October. Read more about the ACC conference here.

Nordic researchers, industrial actors and decision makers will continue with the Nordic Hydrogen Conference with a kick off with a joint session at 16:00 on 31st of october, and follow up with the main programme on 1 November.
